Dingo pays the price, again!
Last week there was another case of a child being attacked by a dingo on Fraser Island. Of course the end result is the dingo being killed. Once again an animal pays the ultimate price for the stupidity, ignorance and arrogance displayed by humans.
I say 'another case', but in reality these attacks are not that common, thankfully. The few reported cases, though, are avoidable.
Besides parents visiting the Island with their families being aware that the Island is inhabited by wild predators and providing the vigilance required as such, the real culprits are the morons who continue to feed these wild animals.
Despite the plethora of signs on the island asking people not to do so, many people still partake in this activity. These sort of attacks can be directly, at least in part, attributed to the imbeciles who continue to feed the wild dingoes.
How so?
By feeding the dingoes these fools are conditioning the dingoes to not be wary of humans. As a wild animal, they instinctively see us as a high order predator and have a natural wariness of us. By feeding them, not only do they loose this wariness, but they learn to associate us as a source of food. A dangerous thing indeed when we put our youngsters in the same environment as a predator capable of bringing down prey larger and stronger than our children.
It has been reported in the Gympie Times that Queensland Sustainability Minister, Kate Jones said.
"The pack (that the dingo belonged to) is well known in the area and is believed to have been regularly fed by an individual who frequents the island."
If this is indeed the case then this irresponsible individual is responsible not only for the traumatic attack on the child, but also the subsequent killing of the dingo.
It is really quite simple if you visit Fraser Island, DONT FEED THE DINGOES. If you are just too stupid, ignorant or arrogant to heed this, then you may be contributing to another attack, which could possibly cause the loss of a young human life, and will most definitely lead to at least one dingo paying the ultimate price.
This is the sort of moronic behaviour people persist in engaging in, despit all the warnings, that lead to the avoidable, tragic events that sometimes unfold on Fraser Island
